I would like to know the ruling on planting shrubs/trees near a property lot line.?

How close should they or can they be planted to the lot line?

Answers:
Hi - just went through this last year. Ensure that the shrubs/trees will not extend into the neighbours property at maturity. E.G. Cedar can be planted approx four feet inside your property line if they are pyramid - apple trees (which you keep prune to be short and squatty should be planted further inside your property to allow for branch extensions at maturity. The neighbour you presently have may give permission to plant closer, however be aware that the property may change hands and new owners may not agree with the location of the trees/shrubs

Other answers:
The general rule is they cannot infringe on the other persons property without their express permission. It's best to plant with enough space to allow maintenance on both sides without crossing the property line.

Just make sure there on your side.
