i have an acre's plot of black soil and want to landscape it. what kinds of plants grow well on black soil?

black soil could be anything...but I am guessing you mean topsoil. Anything could grow in that as long as you use the proper fertilizer that goes with what you are trying to grow
I'm not sure where you live, but I know there are garden centers that you can bring a sample of your soil to and they will analyze it and tell you what will grow well in the soil that you have. Many times they will do it for free in hopes of selling you some plants, bushes and trees. Have fun gardening.
