What do i do about fungous on the bark of Dogwood Tree?

i have a older dogwood tree that seems to have a fungous or mildew on the bark that is making the tree not too happy leaves drooping and curling. What do you suggest any chemical or other treatmentsfor the tree.

Answers:
It sounds very much like a mold or mildew....very bad, I'm afraid.
Something has hurt your tree so bad that it is dying. Like one person said, there IS a disease going around that is wiping out a particular species of dogwood. If that is what is going on, then it's time to look for a new tree--NOT a dogwood, I'm afraid. There is one other reason I can think of, but it's pretty weird. If your tree has suddenly become swamped with water over a period of time, then it would become covered with mildews. Draining the water might help...

My advice would be to call your local extension agent and/or garden center

Say good bye to your Dogwood. There is now a dogwood blight going around an killing all the dogwood trees it comes in contact with. There is no cure.
