I need to know what kind of maintenance a kiwi plant needs do I have to prune every y r?
Answers:
I have 2 kiwi plants growing over a large pergola. They grew so much in the first 3 years that i thought i'd better prune them before they completely took over the place.
I did it in april and the cut ends dripped liquid for weeks!!, that was 3 years ago, i have'nt done it since and it has'nt taken over!!.
If i get any bits that grow crazy i just tie them
back out of the way and it's fine.
There are several types of Kiwi, my big ones are Actinidia Chinensis, they flower like crazy.
I also have one which has much smaller leaves and is self pollinating, the fruit ate grape size
and are not hairy at all!.
I suggest that if you really need to prune yours
do it really early in the year depending on where
you live or late in the year after the leaves have dropped but before the cold weather starts.
Feed them every couple of weeks during the
growing season and enjoy the fruit!!.
Hope this is of some help.

No... don't prune them at all, unless its to tidy them up a bit, and to remove dead sections,,,,
