"how to root" a leyland cypress?

Answers:
For rooting Leyland Cypress cuttings, I would take a "fan" and with my thumb shear the green from the stem leaving about an inch of yellowish stem. Dip in 'Woody' rooting hormone and in a mixture rich in perlite. Good results have been achieved with soilless medium of 3 parts perlite to one part peat. Stick the cutting and leave it for 6 weeks. Then look to see if there is any callusing. If so, cut back on the moisture. You should have a rooted cutting in about 6-10 weeks.
The following is from the Joe Gardener web site. Hope it helps....

"From the start, cover with shade cloth if in the open and in all cases, keep rooting medium moist. If you're using a liquid rooting hormone, excellent results can be achieved in summer using 10,000 parts per million of IBA. However, you should use the lowest ppm (parts per million) as possible that will still produce results. Different propagators write of different levels of success
depending on the time of year, but cuttings will root all through the year under proper conditions. Good luck and be patient. "
