What is the best way to get grass to grow under pine trees?
Answers:
the acid kills grass
I have bark chips around mine, it looks great
my neighbour has put pebbles around his and it looks good too
Other answers:
you have to limb the trees up about 10 feet and buy some 100% shade mix grass seed and that should do the job.

I have pine trees also, and never had any luck with any type of seed. I have put mulch around the bases of the trees, it looks nice, and you don't have to worry about mowing and getting stuck with needles! When the needles fall off, I turn the mulch over and fold the needles into it.
There is too much acid in the droppings and needles . You can try but I have had no luck and have tired everything . Then I cut the tree down .
Most likely will not work. The pine needles change the composition of the soil under them that makes it almost impossible to grow grass.
I would just mulch the area.
I finally gave up after seeding and sodding with every type of grass known to the nursery. I planted vinca vine under mine and it does thrive, looks beautiful even when it is not in bloom and can be controlled with the weed eater when it starts to invade the surrounding grass. Plus, as an added benefit, the pine needles fall unnoticed in between the vines, I never see them, they don't affect the vinca and haven't raked needles since I planted the vinca!
You can't - the needles contain acid which kills most things.
(It's the tree's way of keeping surrounding area clear, for it's own seedlings)
Nettles 'sometimes' manage to get a hold but little else.
Cut down the pine tree...Nothing else works
