Can you plant an orchid outside surrounded by New England?

I received an orchid (Double Cymbidium) from my girlfriend last spring. I of late planted the orchid in her garden 2 days ago. Is this okay to do? Will it ending the winter and bloom in the spring? I am have trouble finding info. Any help or info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Answers:    No, I'm sorry but it does not grow outside surrounded by cold areas. Also you don't plant them in soil, they are "nouns plants" and will even grow on trees in tropical areas. Take a look at what your orchid be planted in when your gf give it to you. It looks like rocks. Right?
