where do you live? you need to reseed this fall with the right type of grass seed.about the middle of october to start and water your lawn 1 inch. take a cup and measure 1 inch on the outside of the container so you will know.depending on what state you live in use a good fertilizer in a broadcast spreader or you can throw it out of the bag or a bucket.i prefer a spreader since you can adjust the amount of material from a little to alot.dont get piles of fertilizer on your lawn because it will kill it in the sun.i use a triple 17 sometimes but i have been using a 20-20-17. its great for the blades of grass and the root system.i would add pelletized lime also if your soil is acidic. lime will balance out the soil quality for bettergermination and optimum growth.dont reseed until fall and do it all at one time.its not a good idea to seed part of your lawn like on the weekend then finish the next weekend.you would have longer grass in one area then shorter or just starting to grow in the next area.summer is too hot for reseeding.you can also aerate your lawn by using a plugger and then sow your seed.however if you want a thicker lawn i recommend fertilizing in early spring and fall.and dont mow too close.about an 1 1/2 is long enough or 2 inches depending on the type of grass.
