Pretty flowers that are resilient and withstand heat?

I want to plant some flowers in my yard this week. Temperature regularly exceeds 90 F but humidity is low. The candidate planting area receives sunlight may be 3 hours a day. What would be a good choice? Planting advice (type of soil, fertilizer, etc.) would also be appreciated.

Answers:
I live in Redding where it is currently 110 degrees!
This past week I have noticed my Lantana, Moss Roses, Crape Murtle, Petunias, Marigolds, Zinnas, Geraniums, Begonias are all doing great and it seems the hotter it gets the better they bloom!.. you will have to water a little though..
A good idea is to check YOUR local garden center and see what they sell for your area...

Petunias do well and last all summer.
Petunias do well and last all summer.
tropical flowers like tuberose and lillies. They smell great and last a long time.
Mexican Heather, Homestead Verbena sound like two good choices.

I'd recommend Jungle Growth if a store in your area carries it. It's what we recommend to customers at my store. It also donates money to save wildlife.

Look for any 'heat thriving' or 'drought resistant' plants if you don't like/find my suggestions.
Cosmos withstand drought & thrive without any fertilizer,in any kind of soil.Certain songbirds love them & they will reseed themselves.Be sure to put them in the back of your garden ,they get quite large 3-4 feet depending.
Portalucas or Moss Roses are a native to Mexico ,a great border plant because they are low lying plants. They come in a variety of colors & withstand periods of drought. They don't need fertilizer but any kind of Miracle Gro or knockoff is appreciated. They will reseed as well.
Daisys are good to but you'll have to check the variety.
moss rose is a good flower for the heat. the hotter the better. very drought resistant too. Good Luck!!
Dayliliies are always a nice choice for the conditions you discribe. They are drought and heat tolerant and can grow in poor soil conditions. There are hundreds to choose from and you can buy different ones that bloom early, mid or late summer,so you can have blooms from spring thru fall.
