what's the best back yard composter?
Answers:
I built my 1st one this year from 4 shipping pallets nailed together and some old screen. It was FREE and easy to put together...seems to be working as it should.
Sorry it can't turn with a crank though :-(
I saw a smallish plastic barrel design that used a crank. The screen was on the inside around an open hub. When you crank the handle the small compost falls out the center hub into a bucket. It was in a home gardeners supply catalog. If I were home I would get the name for you. Try a web search for that criteria you list in the question. They are all over the place.

dig a round hole about 2-2.5 feet round and a foot deep. Buy a three pine stakes that are about 3-4 feet long and some chicken wire 3 feet wide. outline three sides of the hole with the stakes pound into the ground. wrap the outside of the stakes with the chicken wire. Adhere the chicken wire to the stakes with zip ties, twisty wire ties or string. Walla a compost been ready for use. The chicken wire allows for as much air in so that it can breack down everthing in the bin. also it is a good idea to take a shovel a turn the compost every couple of weeks so that all the nutrients get mix up together. I have done this and work awesome. Good luck

go to www.GardensAlive.com. They have a very nice model.
Some good suggestions. I use nothing or cut the bottom off a rubbermaid plastic rubbish bin. Don't worry about the crank. Buy the accelerator drops available at most home stores.
a stripped down water heater...you can get one from someone who recently changed one out or go to an appliance recycling center and purchase one...my hubby made mine and its alot cheaper than buying one...also after it is done and hanging from the posts you dont need a crank...just walk it with your hands and it turns real easy
this is providing you know someone who is willing to do this for you
