We're rookies. What does it mean to plant melon seeds in a hill>?

Answers:
This method is used for spreading plants such as melons and squash. Don't make the mound too high or the seedlings will dry out. It's OK to forget about the mound alltogether. A "hill" is the small group (5 or 6) seeds planted together. Make the "hills " about 4 ft. apart. Plant the individual seeds about 3 inches apart within each "hill" After the plants come up, thin to only 3 plants in each "hill"

Other answers:
mound your soil up into a hill. a hill warms up faster than flat ground and helps the seeds and young plant, it also stops them sitting in a puddle if therte is a lot of rain. also cover the hillwith a sheet of black cloth to help keep things nice and warm.

hilling is to pile up the garden soil into a small hill and plant your seeds on top of the hill. I don't know any commercial growers that "hill" plant. They simply plant in a row as they would any other crop, home you grow some really Sweet melons :-)
Well, I think Tony (above) covered it. Good answer ... :))
It means you'll get a melon plant on a hill.
