How to disguise a path dividing an oblong garden?
Answers:
It's hard to picture from your description, but two things work well.
One, go with stepping stones or stepping pads. They break up the continuity of a continuous path.
Secondly, don't make the path go straight. Change it so that it's a curve or "S" shape. That makes it less noticeable as a path.

dig up concrete and lay in a wider gravel strip with plants coming out of the gravel
get some of that edging material and run it along both sides of the path, have it up just high enough to form a lip, then get some small stones to cover up the concrete. you will still have the path, but it will be updated. Add in some planters with hanging plants such as ivy to hide the edges of the path.
a winding crazy-paving with pebbles dispersed throughout. and a bench kind of thing half way. i did something similar and managed to build a wishing well effect around one of those palm/looking plants. with holes for other plants which like to crawl - softening the new path.
not very technical i'm afraid. gd luck
How about the classic fake moustache/nose and glasses combo.
