gardening beginner?

My husband called me the plant killer. I have had about 6 "polka dot" plants (these are little happy leafy plants with cute pink polka dots) and I killed them all. But my last one is about a year old and happy as ever.. found out hey they have little purple flowers too! LOL
Now I have had 3 years of successful gardening outside our house so dont give up..
Buy pre-potted flowers if you want to know what they are looking like. Be picky about health and soil when choosing. But this can get pricey. You can go cheaper and start off with planting your seeds in peat pots with Miracle Grow potting soil, treat your outside area with Miracle Grow gardening soil. Start out with No Fail flowers. Be aware veggies take longer to sprout than flowers. I would bet Impatiens would grow up there. There are one of those no fails. I live in Massachusetts so I am not sure about your area, but Impatiens are pretty hardy and come in a variety of colors.

Well you have to see if there is alot of sun or not and then when you go to a store for example reno depot (thats in montreal i dont know if you have one there) then you have to tell them "I have a garden that has alot or no sun and i am a beginner planter can you show me where the plantes that are easy to take care of" then ask them and make sure you understand how to take care of the plants don't worry it is not like there people or anything its just plants don't forget to ask how much water it needs

I work in Michigan at a Nursery (for trees and shrubs) It really depends on a lot of things like, how much sunlight per day (6 hours= full sun) and soil type (clay, sand etc) And exposure like N,S,W,E I think we have similar climates and Spring is the best time to plant things, although it is a little early for some annuals and perrenials. After two or three weeks (last threat of frost) it will be best time to plant anything. Hope that helps.
You need to get a gardening book.
Find out your front yards' climate.
Look up the correct plants. Your local nursery will carry mostly the corrct plants for your area, and can answer your
questions.
It will take some studying and some hard work, but is lots of fun.
Can't help with the area and what plants but the basics are the same every where. Don't do anything drastic in the garden you have inherited until all the seasons have passed and you can see what comes up or else you could dig up some choice speciman. Get one good book that deals the weather, soil and conditions for the area in which you live; if you have too many books the conflicting information will drive you mad with frustration. The main thing I find is soil preparation. If the soil is good and you put in plants suited to the conditions (don't try shade lovers in full sun or visa-versa) you can't go far wrong. Happy gardening.
