What should I do to nourish my lawn. I have top soil. How best can i use it.?
Answers:
Most soils are deficient in at least one nutrient. The best thing you could do is take a soil sample and test it. That way you know what your lawn needs. Any home/garden store will offer soil testing kits. A good one will include tests for the ph level, nitrates, phosphourus and potash.
They are relatively inexpensive and will tell you exactly what your soil needs so that your lawn with flourish.

The best first step is to take a soil sample to you local University Agriculture Extention and have it analyized. But if you are serious about getting a carpet like lawn go to a garden center and spend the money on a different fertilizers and lawn care products for different times of the year. It is all dependent on where you live in the country but it is a year long program that works regardless of what companies products you use.
Now for the top soil question. Top soil is usually nothing but the lowest quality dirt you can buy. I tdoes not have a lot of organinc material. I would use top soil to fill in low spots in a building project. but to top dress a lawn, I would use mushroom compost or treated composted manure. Never use fresh manure. The high levels of nitrogen will burn a lawn out very quickly.
