I have alot of castor bean plants in my yard. Whats the best way of getting rid of them?
Answers:
I can't help you get rid of them (I'd imagine you could just pull them up, being careful to remove the roots), but you need to be very careful around them. They're not poisonous to the touch but after coming in contact with them you need to wash your hands thoroughly. While the seeds are the highly poisonous part of the plant (chewed well, a single seed can kill a person UNPLEASANTLY), the entire plant is actually poisonous. While you're working with it, it would be best to wear gloves. When you dispose of it, I would suggest burning or some other means to make sure it's gone and not just sitting in a bag somewhere. Most importantly, do not leave ANY seeds behind. Not only will they allow plants to grow in next year, but they can kill any unsuspecting animal that eats them.

Not sure you should even burn them. Call your county extension agent or State Agricultural Dept. they can help you. Also any Master Gardener in your area can be of help.

the entire plant is poisonous..the bean seeds and pods are more poisonous that the rest of the plant..after handling any part of the plant it is recommended to wash hands..this plant is used to make ricin and aslo castor oil...lol...strange how a poisonous plant can be deadly but also be used to relieve constipation...lol
