Over seed the lawn with rye grass before winter or give it a feed of crushed copra (coconut shell is full of natural fats.) You can buy these things from a bulk supplier of grain/feeds.
water it!

Make sure you keep it cut,and spots that are thining out you can reseed and make sure you water your lawn...If it's to hot in the afternoon, you might want to water early in the morning or in the early evening...You water when its to hot,it will burn your lawn up...

Early in the spring you should buy Scotts turfbuilder with halts crabgrass preventer. Put it on in like April or early May. Then about 1 month later put Scotts turfbuilder with weed preventer. No I dont work for or sell scotts products, but this stuff works better than any other fertilizer i have ever used. My grass is the best lookin one in the neighborhood. Then early June, you also might want to add some weed and feed available at home depot.
first i'm going to assumer you are doing a regular fertilization program. when it gets hot in the summer tho, your grass does not grow as fast, this is a natural self preservation act of the grass itself. thus, you don't want to add a high nitrogen fertilizer that will make it want to grow fast when its trying NOT to do that. the answer is to add an iron product to the soil. the iron will make it green without making it grow fast. you can buy ironite in granular form or in a liquid hose-end sprayer. i put ironite on my lawn everymonth for that extra boost of green. you always use ironite in addition to your regular fertilization program, not instead of. don't forget to water deeply at least 3-4 times a week, depending on the weather conditions. remember, most of the scotts fertiliers are intended to last only 6 weeks so don't skip any of the "steps" or your lawn will be lacking.
