What kind of plant/veggies can i grow in fall in Wisconsin?
Answers:
You can try a patio garden. Bringing it in when it drops below freezing. It depends what part of Wi you are in. I am in central Wi and you could try sweet peas and some garden shops(like Walmart) have tomatoes on and turning red. That'll give you a jump on the weeding! As for Annie Fay...Red bud trees will not grow up here...experience, sorry.

there is pretty much nothing you could plant now that would yield anything before the frosts come. I live in Wisconsin, too, and we started most of our garden vegetables and other plants in late march indoors (This is almost necessary here) in containers. We have just in the last month been able to pick peas, beans and squash and we are still waiting for the tomatos to turn red (although we had red ones before the end of july last summer) and peppers to get big enough. If you really want to grow something now, invest in flourescent fixtures and grow bulbs for them an go at it inside. Otherwise I would plan out what you want to do next summer and get your seeds sown in the early spring indoors. Most veggie and flower annual plants will die in a frost (even just one), so the indoors thing is handy in Wisconsin. good luck.

you can plant trees and bushes yet. to late to plant garden veggies but you can get your garden ready for next year
You can put in Garlic now for harvest next year, and I would think you could at least get some Radishes to produce (three weeks to harvest). To answer your urge to garden, you could always put in some Mums for fall color. Check with a couple of local nurseries/garden stores (not the Big Box stores, real garden stores, watch the local papers for ads and listen to the radio as well) and they will probably be able to advise which shrubs do best in your area when planted in fall - it is common to plant shrubs and trees in fall, that way their roots have been working all winter and they have a head start on next year's growing season. I think Forsythia might work there, and possibly Redbud if you have room for a tree.
