What? Is the lyric correct - it rings bells but I don't recall the song.
As for the hardy nature of willow trees - pretty much yes, once established they can take the worst the English weather has to give. IIRC the willow is one of the few trees that survived the hurricane in the south of England, I suspect it's to do with the way it spreads it's roots but I'm sure someone will know more than I.
