What is the average depth of moss that grows in Southern England?

Answers:
Mosses have a stem covered with many tiny leaves. Mosses do not have true roots to absorb water and mineral nutrients. They do not circulate sap. Mosses absorbed water through their leaves and stem like a sponge.

Mosses, in my experience, don't have "roots" that grow very deep at all. In fact, when you go to transplant moss, you basically get a spoon or other utensil and pull up a corner of it, and then "peel" the moss. Even if it dries out, it quickly revives, due to it's ability to take in moisture through the top.

im just going to go ahead and assume you are talking about peat moss since you mentioned depth... then im gonna tell you that peat moss doesn't grow... it is infact long dead... peat moss is basically a bunch of dead plants that decomposed in a low oxygen environment for a couple hundred years...
