how to stop birds from building nests?
Answers:
If we stop the birds from building nests, then we should stop humans from building homes. Makes no sense right? If a bird is choosing your home for its nest then that means it has found an excellent place for shelter for its young just as you did for your family. After the babies have started to fly, simply move the nest (with gloves) to a tree. This will discourage the mother from rebuilding where the nest originally was. But in the meantime, enjoy the fact that you have a few new lives w/ your home. It can be fun to watch the babies grow. Another thing you can do is before they start building or at the first sign of building, put chicken wire going up and down through the center of the area after you have removed the beginnings of the nest. But once its built and life is in it, just let it be till the end like I said.

Why stop nature??!! You can just remove it when they've hatched and gone away. It's pretty cool having to hear their constant chirps. Enjoy!!;-)

Oh! Don't stop them! Record what they are doing. Set up a way to climb up daily to take pictures. Send the pictures to your grandchildren. What a joy to have birdies in your rafters!
Try putting some toy rubber snakes in the rafters of your porch...
The snake thing will work, but why not enjoy nature?
Birds are our friends!

Its fun to have birds nesting in your house. But remember that those birds need a place to stay to give birth. It reminds me of Mary and Joseph. Maybe you are blessed to have those birds in your house. As the chinese says in the year of the dog, birds are lucky omen in the house.
Burn down your porch or shoot them. Better yet, get a noise maker to scare them away! Or Plant a big tree that they can nest in instead. Or, put them in a cage and keep them!!
Yup agree with all the rest...why would you want to stop them. you should consider yourself lucky that they trust you enough to build their nest in your home. Besides you posted this question in landscaping and gardening...and you cant get any more genuine than having real nests to adorn your house.
Shame on the person who suggested the bb gun...cruelty to animals is a symptom of violence. PEACE!
I would wait until summer when the nest is empty and remove it if you can. Try putting moth balls in the hole, it works for squirrels and it will probably work for birds too. You should seal the holes to prevent them from making a new nest next year.
oh comon, to you hate birds. can you not be a hospitable person? I do not encourage but you can install an anti bird hinning device like the anti mosquito and anti rodent devices. this device emits very high frequency sound that the human ear is not capable to discern.
Hanging anything on a string that moves when the wind blows will creep the birds out. I have seen people use empty gallon milk jugs for this purpose. You can buy plastic owls for the same purpose. Rubber Snakes can scare birds away also. The oldest trick in the book is a scarecrow. Stuff an old shirt and pants make a head and place the scarecrow on a chair on your front porch. Not only will this keep the birds away it will also freak out any children in the neighborhood and keep them off your porch. There are also ultra high pitch electronic noise makers that are above the human range of hearing. You wont hear it but it will make the birds leave. On the other hand if they aren't bothering you, and they aren't damaging your home, why not enjoy nature? Hope this helps.
The old timers painted the roof of the porch a light blue. It stops them from building nests. I don't know why but it works.
