A good, Shade Loving, fast growing, privacy "bush or shrub"?

I want something that is attractive, but will grow fast. We have neigbors who don't keep their yard up, and we would like some privacy as well. We are not allowed to put up a fence. I've look all over the web, but am not able to find anything. I live in NC. PS there are trees were I'll be planting so theres lots of shade.

Answers:
Most fast growing trees become a real problem because of how the spread and have a tendency to be brittle and break easily.

Because your location is shaded that means many shrubs won't grow well there.

I think Bamboo would be a good solution. It grows fast up to 30 ft tall and forms a dense wall of vegetation. You can keep it trimmed to a shorter level. It will spread but you can mow over the growth you don't want.

Rose of Sharon is a shrub that might also work. It will spread quickly also.

Good Luck.

Bamboo is great for a privacy screen. It grows fast, is attractive looking and low-maintenance.

Bamboo is good and fast growing too, but it grows everywhere. Travels underground approx. a foot a day. Daytime Jasmine is fast growing, smells good and spreads, also many Pivot hedges. I have all and they're good in your area too.
