Organic hydroponics, can it be done, and if so how???
Answers: All hydroponics are organic :-)
"How" to grow involves several factors, your space, equipment, what you grow, and how fancy you want to procure. I am a minimalsit - tubs, water, nutrients, fluffy, and some air circulation and own great results.
There are tons of sites out there, but I built my hydro set using instructions from Future Garden, although near others, and I use some Dutch pots (be careful doing a dig out on "dutch pot," by the way). My suggestion is to determine what you want to grow, because your light -- your biggest expense and most exalted part -- will determine outcome. Lettuce, parsley, and the approaching can take underneath 400 watts; tomatoes, peppers, sativa will require more approaching a 1000 watts. I use a single, dual spectrum bulb. (Light, ballast (which makes a loud hum) are from Sun Systems).
There are also some small, self-contained hyrdo unit on the market -- saw some advertise on HGTV, and although I think they are for a time pricey, they are self-contained and quite idiot-proof (which is considerable in your first forays into hydroponics).
Bear this contained by mind your electric bill is going to shoot up. If you are using a 1000 watt light, and your electric cost is 15 cents per kwh, if you are running your lights 12 on/12 past its sell-by date, this is costing you $1.80/day, or about $55/month (not including electric costs for pumps and fans). This spike contained by electric usage could raise a few eyebrows, so undergo that in mind if you are contemplating growing something except rabbit food.
All in adjectives, it is going to take $300 to $500 to bring a system started.
