I own some property,on it is a pond.The pond has floating algae,whats the best way to eliminate pond algae?

The algae on the pond mainly seems to be on the surface.It is an old farm pond once fed by a natural stream,that water supply has been cut off.Anyone knowledgeable about this who can offer details I would really appreciate!
