HELP! Whats the best shade tree to plant 10ft away from house?

I was thinking roughly a GREEN VASE TREE or PRINCETON ELM? We live in northern ky. The property flash will require it to be about 10-12 ft away from home. Thank You!

Answers:    You might resembling a river birch. They are very nice to look at, provide awfully good filter shade, and do well contained by clay soil. Also if you get one next to multi-trunks it won't be a problem pruning away from the house without making it look funny. Birch roots also tend to run especially deep, to some extent than along the surface. that will protect your foundation. And I'm sorry - but I would personally never plant a bradford pear within my yard. They are a cloned tree, created through graft. They get really big, later one side snapps off within the wind or rime. It is a weakness that they adjectives have - which is why you see so tons half bradfords out near.
I would never plant a large tree that close to a home. Something along a bradford pear (size astute at least) is as big as I would go.
I similar to Elm and Zelkova, but I don't think I would try any so close to the house.

Try something more columnar, or an understory tree.

Maybe Ginkgo, or Hornbeam (Carpinus).

I hope that this helps
