the roundest end is the end that points down to the ground.make sure ur hole is about 4 inches deep and when u put ur bulbs in be sure to cover well w/the dirt and use pine needles or another form of mulch to protect it from winters cold weather. best time to plant bulbs is in fall or early winter. bulbs like a nice quiet winter to relax before showin us beauty in early spring.

When in doubt, you can always plant them sideways. They will figure out for themselves which way is up, and will bloom normally. That makes it easy!

If you look at an onion (for example), it is tear drop shaped. You would plant the fat end down, with the skinny end up. Sometimes when you leave an onion too long, it starts to sprout. You'd plant the larger end without sprouts in contact with the soil. That goes for all bulbs, daffodils, tulips, etc.

Some bulbs are actually cormbs, another type of 'root'. It doesn't matter which end you plant cormbs. Cyclamen produce cormbs.

Bulbs prefer to be planted with their roots down.
