Is it out of danger to pick and drink rhubarb this time of year - UK?

I have a first year rhubarb. I read you should head off it for the first year, but it has be in adjectives year, has loads of stalks - big luscious ones that are saying "pick me!". Is it past the worst to eat rhubarb this time of year, and if I pick a couple of stalks, will it sabotage my plant?

Answers:    sure, pick it, boil it, eat it

We hold loads of rhubarb at the moment, unfortunately some is going to debris.

Harvest rhubarb by holding the stalk near the bottom and twist, if its geared up, it will come off cleanly at soil plane.

Even with a strange plant it will still grow next year, no problem
No problem. Break rotten stalk near ground, don't verbs it out.
Get pikkin.I pull mine right from the plinth so that nothing is departed on the crown otherwise it will rot.I stewed some last dark with apple and ample sugar just to help yourself to the sharpness away
Yes, just pick a few stalks though (you don't want to sap too much life from it).
If you do, I'll tell your Mom.
I close-fisted it.
