how do you discourage wood bees from your porch?

Answers:
First see if they have built a hive near by or in the eaves of your roof. Some how bee's had gotten into the wall of my mothers house and were building a new home in her wall! A professional came out and had to tear out some of the wall to replace the bee's else where. They also rebuilt the wall.

get rid of the porch!
is that anything like wannabees?
Hang a big bag of honey about 4 blocks away at a neighbor's house that you don't like.
stand on your porch with a badminton racket and start swinging away...it will help eliminate some of the bees and greatly reduce your stress level as well as develop a deadly backhand
I read (on the net, a few days ago) to paint or coat the wood.

Do a search of Q & As -- maybe you can gather clues from similar questions answered.
Sit 'em down and give 'em a good talking to.If that doesn't work get a wooden fly swatter!
Of course, you can do this anywhere, but while standing on your porch is fine:

Call out to them, "Hey, you're not busy! I bet your hive has voted you as the most useless member of the family!"

That usually works to induce discouragement.
