If I have a bonfire on my grass will it grow back and how long will it take?

Answers:
scrape off the top scortched soil and replace it with some more soil. if your area is more than 5 or 6 feet you might want to do the following several times til you get it all.

you can plant your grass and it will be 8 inches high in 2 days. i know it sounds impossible but i have done it many times.

plant the seed as you normally would. but this time cut a piece of clear plastic a foot wider than the patched area and place something heavy like rocks around the edges to hold it down. poke two small holes in the plastic somewhere near the center for ventilation.

take the plastic off the next morning to water the spot and recover it. do not go past 2 days or your new grass will turn yellow and you'll have to start all over again.

this works in spring and fall. don't try it in the middle of the summer it will be too hot under the plastic

i'm a cheapskate so i get free plastic by having furniture stores save those big clear plastic bags that mattresses come in. :)

It'll never grow back. You've scorched the earth.

Yes, it will grow back. I don't know how long it will take, but I definitely know it will.
In my experience it takes only one season to grow grass back, you just need to replant it before next year
It will grow back if you plant new seed and water and fertilize it. And love it a bit too!
It won't grow back until you re-seed the grass. After that it will be back in one season.

Looking back, Solo has a very good idea.
If you have to have the fire on this area why don't you lift the turf then replace it afterwards?
If you make sure you clean up all the burnt pieces, your grass should start to grow back within a couple of weeks.
Since it is spring things grow fast. I would get some grass seed and put it on the spot. The cover the seeds with hay or straw to keep the birds from eating the seeds. Make sure it gets plenty of water and you should have grass in not time flat.

We burn our ditch every year and it comes back in a couple of weeks. The ash makes the soil rich.
about 4 to 6 months, i am sure it will grow back.
you would be better lifting the turf where you are going to have the fire and re laying it when it is all cleared away.
you will not have any problems if you do that. Burnt wood is a good potash fertiliser
I've got an Inferno which looks like a metal can on a stand with a lid on the top. That way I don't burn the grass as much. Although it prevents that from happening; it kinda isn't as fun as having a big bonfire for Guy Fawks Day Celebrations!!
you may have to dig up that part of the lawn and resoil and refertilize then lay either a patch or sod or grass seed and keep very moist not to wet and it should come back in about three weeks
i'd burn in some words too
