when cutting an old rose off a rose bush (pruning) how far down the stem do i cut??
Answers:
Prune the rose all the way to the bottom of the stem. This will prevent the rose bush from putting energy into sustaining that rose or stem, when it really should be putting energy into those that are still alive or growing.
Other answers:
all the way! Down to the end.

Don't go to far! You want to cut near the end but above new growth or you won't have any flowers. cut at a angle away from the new growth and seal the cut with Vaseline which will cure the cut and prevent bacteria from damaging it. Also a good tip for new blooms- once a month, let a few ripe bananas goes black, then cut them up, skins and all, bury them near the roots of your roses and water. Within a week you'll have a abundance of new blooms. Works like a charm!

an ole rule of thumb......where ever u cut it, cut right above where a 5 leaf stem is. cutting right above it will cause the regrowth there and it will double
