Do you have Lilac Bushes?

If so, mine will bud and then they will just dry up and fall off. They wont open. Ideas on what to do?
Thanks!

Answers:
It sounds like you have a fungus problem there that is attacking the buds. I would go the local nursery or some where like Home Depot or Lowe's and ask for a general fungicide in liquid form to spray on the plant. It should knock out what ever it is happening to it. If push comes to shove Ortho has a product that will fertilize and put in fungicide and insecticide with a ground application. I would look into that one too. Many people use it on rose bushes since roses get attacked by leaf spot, mildew, mold and insects which will and can destroy the blooms. This should work on Lilac also. Happy planting.

Set up a sprinkler on the bush before 10 am and after 5 pm... this will allow the blooms enough available moisture to sustain through the day without burning them. Best wishes
miracle grow - the stuff really does work.
The watering suggestion is a Good one but do not use miracle grow on them unless it is a weak concentration. If you have poison ivy growing around it do not use any Ivy weed killer as it will target the Lilacs and stop them from blooming and eventually kill them.
Water it? You may want to check the alkoline level in the soil, I don't know what level Lilacs prefer, but you could check it out, and get a soil test kit from your local hardware store. It's easy to change the acidity level of soil, many good books on organtic composting will tell you what to compost for acidic or base compost.
About Lilac bushes-I have mine for 20 years-purple-a friend I used to work with gave it to me -It finally bloomed this year-I had put cow manure from Lowe's on it and I guess I will put some more on it and some other Lilac bushes I have. My sister told me lime was good for them so I may try a little!! I love Lilacs and wish they could bloom all year long! Good Luck! I love the sent also!
