Bamboo Question!?

I know bamboo can be an invasive nightmare...however, I hear there is a type which grows at a slow rate and doesn't spread roots resembling the traditional type. Does anyone know what this would be?

I know bamboos that can frow upto 70 ft a month. I don't remember the cross though.
