How to care and protect strawberries from "invaders"?

Answers:
I've had a strawberry patch for years and the only invaders I've ever had are birds and small boys. For the birds I strung wire between poles at both ends of the bed and tied disposable aluminum pie pans to the wire. The "flash" of the sun on the pans as the breeze moved them kept the birds at bay. The boys? Well, it took 20 years, but the finally grew up and have strawberry patches of their own to raid!

lightweight mesh screening, the white nylon stuff. My grandfather used it for years to keep bugs/birds/etc away from the strawberries.
Make beer traps. Slugs are attracted to the scent of yeast. So bury some yogurt or even larger containers up to the rim in your garden and fill them with beer. The slugs will go to those instead of the strawberries and drown in the beer. Its a good, pesticide free way to help control the pests.
