When it comes to taking care of plants how do you keep the water and dirt from getting all over the place?

especially at the bottom of the pot(indoors).

Answers:
When you first pot the plant, put a coffee filter in the bottom before adding the dirt. this keeps the doil from washing out when you water while still allowing for drainage. I like the clear plastic pot trays from garden centers or Wally World (WalMart). You can add water slowly and wait for it to drain so as not to overfill. You may also water from the bottom by just filling the tray part way up. The plant's roots will soak up the water they need.

Other answers:
put it on a tray. but i know with mine, either the cat or somebody always ends up knocking them over. so good luck.

put a plate or bowl under it there are special ones that come with plant pots
try putting pot onto the kitchen sink and watering there and make sure not to put plant back until excess water has drained.
just don't over water them and you will be fine. Add a little tray underneath. Or stand them in a bigger pretty Flowerpot and when you water you don't need to worry to much, it stayes in the pot.
Try putting the plant and the dirt into a plant pot and not over filling the pot with dirt, then slip a tray of some sort under the plant, then water when needed with a reasonable amount of water......ie: don't bring the outdoor hose in on full blast, use a glass or watering can or juice jug or something. You'll figure it out.
Go to Home Depot or Lowe's or a garden store and buy the clear plastic saucers with raised riges in the bottom. Throw awayy the clip on drain dishes that came with the pos. and use one of plastic drain dishes that you are going to buy. They are usually on diplay in a circular rack that holds different sizes of the trays.
Carray a tea towel with you when you are watering to wipe up spills and drips. After you have watered the plants discard any water in the tray. If you have African Violets always water them from the bottom and give them 30 min. to drink what they want and discard the balance.
