What is a good weed killer that won't harm grass, shrubs, or flowers?

I have been doing some gardening lately, but the weeds seem to be taking over! Can anyone suggest a weed killer that won't harm grass, shrubs, or flowers?

Answers:
the answer is 3 fold. You need an herbicide for each use,

Any home use lawn weed killer will kill the lawn weeds without killing the grass. These are known as selective weed controls. Do Not use round-up for this task though. It will kill the grass too..

For around shrubs, there are products that can be sprayed over the top of shrubbery to kill weeds/grasses growing within shrub beds. You can also use round-up, BUT BE VERY CAREFUL TO NOT SPRAY THE SHRUBS. If you can narrow the spray pattern and hit just the weeds without drift, then do so. You can also mix a pre-emergent into the round-up like Oryzalin (name of active ingredient) to keep other weeds from germinating afterwords.

As for the flowers, not a whole lot to do here. The best way is pre -emergently. If you have weeds growing already, then your kind of stuck. Most lawn weeds are similar to annual and perrenial flowers. Residentail use weed controls do not know the difference between flower and weed. If you can spray the weeds without drift or contact with the flowers, then round up is safe to use.

As far as lawn weeds, Be sure not to use an ester formulation near shrubs. Even without touching the shrubs,it can cause a little damage from vapors.
Ask if it is an ester or amine formualtion if using around shrubs.

next season, use pre emergents before weeds come in. Treflan(preen) or other popular ones, once watered in,do a good job. Just dont disturb too much after you put it down as it will break a barrier and weeds may pop thru. You can go over or under Mulch or both with these products.

No Matter what you use , Please read the label. It may be mumbo jumbo, but can save many dollars in costly mistakes for just 10 inutes of reading...

Hope it helps..

Check with who you buy it from and read the directions. Make sure the person knows what he/she is talking about. Like ask the question,"how do you know this?"
Sounds like you have a bigger problem than I did. I just had dandelions and even Round up burnt SOME of the grass. Good luck. I know there are products out there. Word of mouth and if you go by an answer here on line, still ask before you buy.
