Hostas....is there a certain time of the year to divide them?

Will they live if I do it this summer?

Answers:
Hostas are pretty healthy, I just dug up some of mine and transplanted them, they are doing good so far, just water them, if they are large you will literally have to take a knife and cut them apart to subdivide.

Other answers:
I have divided them spring, summer, and fall. But early spring is the best time

I've heard either early spring or mid fall. But I got mad at one in the middle of August last year, split it into four parts and each part is still thriving.
All answers so far match what I would have said. They are very hearty plants and you can divide them anytime, but springtime is best. Just water them and they grow!
i agree, you can divide them about anytime, just water well
