What eats pecan tree leaves in NC in July?

I planted two pecan trees in my yard in the fall of 2004. We live just outside Charlotte, NC. Last year and this year around the 4th of July I noticed the trees looking a bit ragged. Closer inspection revealed "chewed" leaves over 20 to 60% of the trees. One tree is not coping as well as the other to this insult.

get some bacilli based spray,,it is enviromentally friendly ,and wont kill birds that eat the worms that have been sprayed
