the fan of our ac stops spinning...what could be the problem?
Answers:
could be a loose wire but, most likely the fan motor has burned out. If you have a volt meter you can check the motor and make sure you still have power going to the motor.
Other answers:
Your only option left is to spin the fan yourself. Good luck.

It may be normal opperation.
The fan removes the heat from the coils and will come on and off as your A/C does.
There is a run capacitor connected to every fan. If it goes bad the fan will not run but the fan will still be good. If you know the fan is getting power, it will be either the capacitor or the fan motor.
The outside unit fan is connected to the contactor that turns on the compressor. If the compressor is running the fan probably has power.
The fan seems to be moving around on it's own, it's in the back yard then it's on the roof. Have a talk with it and put it in it's place.
Turn off the power and turn the fan by hand if it drags or makes any noise you should replace it or the bearing. If it spins freely it's an electrical problem, may be a loose wire if it goes on and off check the connections.
This isn't a DIY repair for an homeowner nowadays with new energy laws the repairs a diy used to make they can't because the parts you'll need comes from a heating and cooling supply house and unless u know somebody or are an HVAC Cont, u can't get the parts. But it sounds like the fan motor,24 volt contactors or capacitor.
