What's the best wax or polish for an antique mahogany dinner table?
Answers: Some truth in the answers so far, however if it is an "antique" & the finish is surrounded by good shape, smaller quantity is more.
You can use Murphy's as a surface cleaner( not my favorite) well diluted when applied & removed completely.
There are prepared made emulsions which are a little gentler (Guardsman is one).
Either should be applied w/ soft cloth , narrowly dampened with the stuff to remove any life crud.
The auto wax / metal polish route is also OK if there is no
hardened in it .
They can own a lot of carnauba wax surrounded by them , which is good.
I would avoid using oil esp. anything containing silicones on an antique
Beeswax is a good protectant , but is soft by itself & can smudge glibly.
For an off the shelf product, Butcher's wax is also OK.
Look for a complex pastewax that contains lots of carnauba, & some beeswax.
May seem somewhat over the top for the homeowner, but it is the basic cleanup I used to administer antique furniture after repair & does not have to be done repeatedly.
One good cleaning & a suitable waxing will ultimate for a long time w/ just dusting & buffing from time to time w/ a soft cloth.
That's vitally all oodles antique shops do before they put something contained by the window.

For a mahogany dinner table I would use Murphy's oil. My grandmother used it for ages. It works correct.
