I do not have a Maytag.. BUT IF I DID.. I would look up the trouble shooting things in the back of the manual.. If I did not have a manual, I would call the Maytag 800 number to ask them... I have had this happen a number of times on OTHER items.

Empty it out, flip it over and you will see 2 or 3 pulleys on the bottom with no belt. You need a belt.

Could be the belt, could be the timer, do you hear the motor running, does the timer advance after fill?
