why not cancel the internet service and get a window air conditioner?
was there a warranty on the central air? if its medically necessary maybe your insurance will cover it.

in India they make a box with the top being a metal baking pan with little holes along the outer edges and they use bamboo poles connected to the holes around the edge and that drains into another baking pan at the bottom and they pump the water up to the top pan and it drains down through the bamboo poles and so on, then then blow air through the bamboo poles into the house, this works just as good as western style air conditioners at a fraction of the cost.
I agree... find a local organization that deals with that type of stuff.... They might pay for what needs to be fixed, or they might just replace the whole unit, depending on the organizations policy...
Or as said before, if it is required that you need it for your disability the insurance company may help you out..
