Why does my water heater leak out of the relief valve after I take a shower?

Answers:
the relief valve maybe getting weak and allowing blow off. this is a fairly easy fix, shut hot water heater off drain by use to get below the relief valve. remove valve with pipe wrench. take relief valve to plumbing supply store and have them match up a new one for you. Lowe's and the depot have them (approx: $20.) Place new tread tape or pipe dope to threads on valve tighten with wrench and turn heater back on.

Other answers:
elements are set too hot, unless heater is old and valve is weak

try changing it before you do anything else.
your pressure relief valve is weak and needs to be replaced .when your in the shower you decrease pressure in the system.the sudden shock of turning your shower off increases pressure therefore overloading weak relief valve.
