Can I use a three instrument switch to to connect two wires from pallid and two wires from source?
Answers: Yes. A three way switch is a single pole,
double throw switch. It functions fine as
a single pole, single throw switch next to
the other 'throw` disconnected.
To do what you ask,
*Connect the 'white` neutrals from the load, (light),
and incoming strip together.
* Connect incoming power to one of the two 'out`
poles of the switch.
* Connect the load, (light) power to the incoming
pole of the switch.
The common sense for the 'backwards` connection is that
it avoids energizing the not related pole of the
switch when the load is 'off`. It's a small point, but
just a bit safer for someone else working on the
item later who may not know what you did.
I'm assuming you are referring to using two different switches for this: one for the source and one for the feathery. Depending on the make of the switch two wires can be placed underneath each terminal, however, I would recommend electrics the two wires and a pigtail under a flex nut and connecting the pigtail to the switch's terminal screw.
