My home is really old and the race that owned it before me rigged the ductwork.. I be wanting to do replace it myself, but from looking on the net it seem if I might want to pay to hold it done. I have be doing a little poking around for info on freshening and it seems exceptionally common surrounded by newer homes to use a main trunk type layout. My system have many ducts coming stale of the plenum and running to varoius parts of the house..I only own around $600 in my hoard, so I was wondering going on for what the average cost would be for a 1500 square footage home might run.. Can the "average joe" install new ductwork or is this something that I would want a professional to do? Also if it is something that I would want to hire out would I save any money by taking out the feeble duct work?
Answers: Yes, the newer method is a main run next to smaller ducts running off and to the vent. In some parts of the US, the utility company, whether it's gas company or electric will give rebate and incentives to do upgrades such as this. The companies that do this, will finance it, within some cases with nil interest. Some of the home centers, Lowes etc. may install ducts through an installer. First I would call your utility company and inquire, taking it from here.
Good Luck, ;-)
get wet heat later you don't need duct work
