the outside a/c unit for my house does not cycle properly what is wrong ? It runs too long.?

It may be low on Freon, which is the refrigerant that A/C systems use. If you're unsure how to go about checking and re-filling the system, call an A/C technician to check it out. It may be easily servicable for $150 or less.

broken thermostat probably. have that checked and/or replaced. the a/c trips on/off according to the thermostat setting. when the a/c is on try moving the thermostat very far up or down and see if that turns off the a/c. if so then your thermostat is either broken or needs to be recalibrated.

If your a/c is not cycling off it may be froze up or it may need a shot of freon, call your local appliance service and they will be able to hook you and get your a/c cycling. But expect a bill somewhere near 200. My fiance fixes appliances for a living, so I hope this helps you out a little bit.
If you have a service contract on it, call them to come and check it. It will be covered under that policy. If not, call a service man and get him out there a.s.ap. It's costing you money if it isn't working/cycling right.
