Why is my ceiling fan slowing down? Bad motor?
Answers:
Before you go to the expense of replacing it, try cleaning it. Lint and dust collects on the top of the blades and in the motor housing. Get some canned air at an electronics or computer store and blow out the motor housing. Then use an electrical cleaner and lubricant Called ElectricAll , Rejuvenating Solution for Electrical Applications, sprayed right into the motor. This worked on our ceiling fan that started slowing down to low when you wanted it to operate on high. We also coated our blades with Armour All for cars after we cleaned them and it really keeps dust and lint from collecting on the blades.

Try cleaning it, sometimes dust etc clogs them.
if you know what your doing, you can disassemble it, clean it, and grease it. if you're not sure how, and you don't have a person around who does, i suggest simply replacing it.... much less of a headache.
Ceiling fans are actually pretty easy to replace if they were installed correctly in the first place. I did two last summer from scratch and even new they're pretty easy to install if you know wiring basics and how to frame in some 2X4 to attach the electric box to. It sounds to me like you have bearing problems, bub. Lookit......fans are relatively cheap. This kind of problem could burn down your house. Scrap it and get a new one installed. It won't hurt you or your pocketbook that much if you know some basics, and they come with good directions. Good luck.
There may be some faulty wiring or a problem with the motor.
