a/c compressor?

my ac sometimes will blow warm air instead of cold. I just noticed this time when my temp. crept up and I went outside and my compressor was off and pretty hot. i let it cool down and it started up again what could be the problem??????

Answers:
You are most likely low on freon. This job should be looked at by a mechanic.

If your a/c blows warm air while driving and cooler air at idle... this is most likely the problem.

Other answers:
most likely the condenser coil needs cleaning or your air filter does.

lack of freon, or ck the breaker....when it does get hot it will shut it self off...sounds like ur freon is way to low..which explain the warm air
It's over heating. You probably need to recharge your freon or have a technician take a look at it for needed repairs.
change the filter inside the house and restart it...I bet that fixs your problem. I have called a HVAC repairman to my house and paid a service fee only to find out that all I needed was a new filter!
it could be several things including a failing compressor

the cheapest easiest to fix thing that could be wrong is that your air exchanger is dirty

the air exchanger is the "finned" area that the outside fan blows through to cool off the freon

if the exchanger is plugged with dirt or whatever, then the freon cannot be cooled and the pressure goes up and the compressor shuts off

you can usually clean your exchanger with a garden hose

spray throught the fins to make sure that air can blow through

good luck

if a dirty exchanger is not your problem, the other possibilities are bad news

hopefully a few minutes of cleaning and you will be like new

good luck
Blowing warm air signifies a need for a freon charge. The fan outside isn't running so it sounds like maybe a new motor might be needed. You should contact your local a/c place and have it looked at.
common problems are:
If it's running hot the condenser coils outside may be plugged up and not allowing proper air flow.

The compressor may be old and worn.

The freon supply may be low causing excessive run time and overheating.

There may be a restriction in the system.
The refrigerant level is low. The refrigerant actually helps cool the compressor windings as it runs. On hot day, if the refrigerant level is low, it can't keep the compressor cool and the compressor will shut off on its own internal overload control. It wont come back on until the can, or compressor, cools. To check this, get the A/C running a while and check the two copper lines coming from the condensing unit. The bigger line with insulation on it should be wet. It should be wet all the way back to the compressor. If it isn't, the refrigerant level is low and needs some added. I hope this helped!! Good luck!
Djjay 2000 00 is a very good answer for your problem. I like to add to check and make sure that your filter on your furnace or air-handler is clean. You don't want a restriction of air flow to your system. Great call Djjay 2000 00.
Good Luck
Neglect! Wash the condenser coils. Thats about all you can do. If this doesn't help, call a service co. The problem may be a weak run capacitor. I doubt low on freon, because you didn't indicate unit freezing up, but a tech will find out for sure.
