What is the proper way to dispose of cooking oil?

I know I can filter and reuse it but how do I finally get rid of the stuff. I want a 'green' answer.

Answers:
Find someone who turns it into diesel fuel that will take it for free. Alternatively, try asking you local councils environmental officer

Other answers:
Don't pour it down the drain! Put it in a plastic container and put it in the bin.

Put it in the container it came in and put in trash bin.
Give it to someone who has a diesel engine, they can mix it with their diesel and burn it for energy.
Put in a coffee can until it hardens and throw it out
put it in a container that can be sealed then put it in the trash
I read somewhere that you can throw it in with compost... Does anyone know if this is true? I know it will kill the pipes if you dump it down the sink, but is it OK to pour it out on the lawn?
