How do I remove a heating element from a Kenmore electric dryer? Do I have to remove the whole case? Help!?
Answers:
It depends when it was made. Pull the dryer out & check & see if the back panel has screws in it. If it does, remove the screws - the element will be on the right side. There is one 5/16" screw at the very top of the element holding it to the cabinet.
If the back of the dryer is not removable, then you have a newer-style machine. The elemnt is accessable from the front on these.

Why remove it? You may be able to repair it with out removing it. Kenmore is just a Sears Whirlpool by a different name, but some models are different. Generally, you will have to remove the front to get to the basket. You then remove the basket and the element is mounted on the back wall. If it only has one break in it and is only about twenty years old or younger, you should have enough length in the coils at the break to bring them together and just twist them with a strong pliers, or use a metal "wire clamp" to hold the two ends side by side and then close the clamp with the pliers.
