Or you simply need to press down on the pilot feathery valve until the thermocouple heat up properly.
This is a metal object that sits over the pilot lantern. The heat from the pilot restrained keeps it depart and gas continues to flow to the pilot light. If it fail, it sends the signal to the pilot light spout to turn off. This prevents gas from flowing and building up to explosive level
If the furnace has a pilot frothy that stays on all the time, the thermocouple wants to be replaced first. Thermocouples usually cost about $10.00. If this does not solve the problem, the gas spout will have to be replaced.
