What is the best way to get rid of an old computer?
We also have a really old desktop (From the early 90's).
Answers:
Sell it on e-Bay. Make you some money. Just disclose the things that are wrong with it as well as everything you know about it. My sister sold one that didn't work for like $175 bucks and then with the shipping at $50 she made a deal!

Throw it out a window. The satisfaction is unbelievable.

put them outside with a "FREE" sign on them..
Throw it out the window! That's what I'd like to do with mine!
sell it online on ebay or something.
or you can wait another 20 years and then sell it as a collectors item or antique.
but, on a serious note, you can disassemble it, take out the parts which are working and usable, and junk the rest.
peace.
Donate it to the local secondhand store (salvation army)...i think you can even get a tax credit. Or, try to sell it on ebay. Give it to a family member/friend who doesn't have one.
duh buy a new one
Erase the memory and then 'donate' it to a local charity or Good Will. They generally charge $5 or so to deposit it there, but you're doing yourself, someone in need and the enviroment a favor. I think that you can also log onto www.dell.com for other ideas. Good luck! ; )
Sell it on ebay or to the manufacturer and they may give you a discount on a newer updated version of the laptop.
Put an ad in the paper that you are selling it for $5, which is about the price of the ad.
Most people not even the Salvation Army or Goodwill will not accept as donation, it is the city dump for our old computers.
Whatever you do be certain to remove all personal info from the Hard drive. There are many levels of "cleaning" you can do (for example: Format /U, or FDISK, but without specialized programs (of which I know nothing), little short of physically removing the drive from the chassis and destroying it will prevent snoops from peeking.
